Aotearoa | New Zealand artist Karen Sewell has been invited by the Global Art Foundation (GAA) to exhibit in Personal Structures, Venice, Italy in 2022, a Venice Biennale collateral exhibition, hosted by the European Cultural Centre. Sewell’s sculptural installation and photographic prints will be exhibited in Palazzo Mora, a 16th century Venetian Palace, situated in the centre of Venice on Strada Nova in Sestier Cannaregio.

Her work will show alongside presentations by renowned and emerging international artists. Luminary explores the metaphor of light and light giving bodies. The installation and photographs evoke celestial bodies, offering audiences the potential of a liminal moment of encounter with the unseen and unknown.

“Taking Luminary to Italy opens up a dimension of the art-spiritual dialogue, a re-connection between contemporary art, histories of faith and sites of worship with a uniquely Aotearoa New Zealand infused understanding.” says the artist.
